Anime that needs your love?
May. 2nd, 2009 10:31 pmMy heart really goes out to Katsuhiro Otomo's Freedom. The series originally backed the wrong horse in the HD race, by choosing HDDVD over Blu-Ray, and then when it converted to Blu-Ray, it seems to have lost all its steam in the press. At least I stopped hearing about it.
I never saw the whole thing, and that's because NetFlix doesn't stock the whole series, just the first two standard definition DVDs. There's simply no way for me to legally rent it. For me to legally see the whole thing, I'll have to buy the Blu-Ray discs. (Making it my first Blu-Ray purchase of any discs at all.)
Is there any anime out there that you think it awesome, but that nobody else seems to know about or appreciate?

Date: 2009-05-06 07:14 pm (UTC)Off the top of my head, series that I love but that I can't seem to get other people who don't know Japanese to watch, include Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei (and the 2nd and OVA seasons) and Yakitate! Japan... probably because both require some more Japanese language/cultural knowledge than a lot of shows. Also there's that "legal" issue you keep bringing up. Crunchyroll is doing some good work to bring streaming anime to the foreign masses but it's a tough battle. SZS and Y!J have been over for a couple years now so it's not likely they'll end up there, and I'm not sure if there are plans for DVD releases in the US.
